Hey yall!! Im moving to japan this year for study abroad. Im only asking here bc the information ive been able to find online has been scarce and somewhat contradictory, so i wanted to hear from people who have been through this more recently.
How has your experience been with medication in Japan? I understand that Adderall is completely banned, but im still confused about vyvanse. It seems like it's.. kind of banned? But not entirely? Idk lol
Im currently feeling a little bit crushed bc i switched to vyvanse from adderall to try to prepare myself for moving, but i just had to switch back bc while vyvanse was fine at first, it feels like now i'm struggling with all the same symptoms and executive dysfunction that made my life miserable when i was unmedicated (even after switching from 20mg to 30). Ofc something is better than nothing at all, so ill take what i can get when i dont have access to adderall anymore. I switched back mainly because i was entering depressive behavior again + im taking summer classes, and it seemed more important to ensure my success in school right now than to be depressed in preparation, cuz that switch up is gonna hurt regardless lol. So yeah, i guess what im asking is this:
How did u get medication? Was it easy or hard?
Is vyvanse actually available? Im so confused…ðŸ˜
Are there alternatives to vyvanse that have worked well in ur experience? Ofc medication affects everyone differently but im curious to know what other options are out there and how theyve worked for you all.
Do u have any general coping strategies for when u dont have access to medication?
Also this isnt exactly a question, but i would love to hear anything else about yalls experience in japan living with ADHD. I understand it's quite stigmatized in East Asian countries, at least according to what ive seen online, plus what my Chinese friend has told me.
And finally context to my personal situation:
Im 19 and female from the United States, just finished my first year of college. Got diagnosed in 7th grade and took concerta from then until 9th grade when i switched to adderall bc i started failing school during the pandemic. Wish i could join the Vyvanse hype train, but after a couple months ive become disillusioned😔And ill be studying at Tohoku University up in sendai for 11 months.
