I'm currently staying in Japan for the next 40 days and have a background in hospitality. I'd love to visit several different types of lodging venues during my stay here to learn more about the hospitality culture. Back in America, to get a feel for a hotel or just an area in general, I would go to the restaurants there as they were usually very good, show the kind of development in an area, and talking to staff about the hotel/area was easy.
I was wondering if something similar is available in Japan? The bulk of my trip will be in Kyoto, but I have trips planned for Kobe, Hiroshima, Osaka, Nara, and Tokyo.
