Basically, I've asked my employer about working remotely full time from Japan through an EOR, and they're okay with that. Now, it's not a huge company with lots of experience in this field so part of it is me doing some of the groundwork. I aim to get the highly skilled professional visa, if it makes a difference.
In terms of EOR it sounds pretty straightforward. My company writes a contract which effectively speaking is forwarded to me through the EOR.
However, the COE/visa part is confusing me a bit. I've heard that using the EOR to do it is "really expensive" (any numbers?). Since this potentially goes out of my paycheck I'd like to reduce this cost. Is it possible to apply "by yourself"? Or is there some Japanese paperwork that only the EOR can fill out? If they sign their name on the contract and hand it back to me, do I hold all the information necessary (i.e. contract + whatever necessary personal information I need).
I couldn't really find any information about this. Obviously I could call up the EOR (I guess?) and just ask, but they're in the business of charging loads for applications so I'm not sure I'd get a straight answer.
