hellooo, just need some insight and hear opinions of people who don’t know me (24f) or him (23)!
i’ve developed a crush on one of my friends who i also work with. to give context, we work at the same school, i’m an english teacher and he teaches japanese. i currently teach at six different schools so i’m only at his school twice a week. plus we barely talk at work cause we’re both busy but also we sit on completely opposite sides of the office.
when we first met, i wasn’t interested in him and just thought of him as a friend. all of the other teachers introduced us because we’re very close in age and the youngest ones at our school. then we started hanging out more outside of school (with other people) and we had a takoyaki party at my place with other friends. found out he lives directly underneath me and he was suprised how different our apartments looked and invited me to come see his. so we went down to his place i was so surprised abt the amount of stuff we have in common…. our interests and hobbies were pretty much the same. after that we became closer, talking about movies, games, music, anything and thats when i started becoming more interested in him.
we’ve been to festivals and other local events together too. recently we had an event that we had to work at, and decided to have a yakinikuお疲れさま会 at my place. i asked if it was gonna be with everyone and he said ふたりでもいいね！so we hung out just the two of us, ate yakiniku, watch a scary movie, then played a game together until around 1am. then said next time he wanted to do dinner at his place!
since then, we have been very touchy… always standing shoulder to shoulder, sitting thigh to thigh, leaning into each other all the time. sometimes he’ll put a hand on my thigh or on my shoulder and vice versa, i do the same. i had a birthday party recently and the entire time we were talking mainly with each other, flirting, and just having a good time. after everyone headed to the bar and he didn’t come cause he had to work the next day but he offered to drive me and no one else. so while we were in the car, i asked him why we never talk at work and he said because we always laugh too much when we’re together and he wants to focus at work. but since then he’s been more active in interacting with me at work.
today we went out to dinner with our friends then afterwards he asked me if i wanted to hangout just the two of us and we played games until midnight again.
in my experience with japanese men, they sometimes feel more comfortable being touchy with foreigners cause it shows that we’re friends. but he doesn’t have a gf and i’ve never seen him interact with other women like he does with me.
but what i’m wondering is, is it just a friendship or is there some feelings involved? nothings ever been called a date but lately we always are doing stuff just the two of us.
