Considering moving out to Kameoka after getting fed up with urban life but need to have occasional decent access to Kyoto City for work. I love the feel of the valley out there; still really close to the city but feels like a whole other world.
How is it out there?
How do you manage if you're not close to a station?
What's the status of noisy biker groups at night?
Have a local real estate guy to recommend?
Are all the nice kominkas (or even decent ones) really not for sale ever? All I see are crap ones listed, and few at that. Is there some special list that only local real estate pros have access to?
I'd love something north east of the river but it seems like transportation would be a bitch and there just isn't much for sale there. Tsutsujigaoaka has decent prices for used houses but I discovered on a trip out there today that it's way up on a hill. Not interested in something down near the main street, too busy and I need some space and greenery. A property with a bit of land for some gardening would be a non-negotiable point for me. Kominka would be the dream, but those seem all to be fixer uppers and I'm hesitant of my ability to do so much DIY in Japan.
Thanks.

I used to live there. You can dm me.
lived there for 7 months in a share house, 15 min walk from JR, and i really liked it. i did visit a house more in the northeast section that was mostly DIY. the guy even had a greenhouse. no noise issues, easy access to kyoto city, really thick fog in fall/winter, no complaints.
