I graduated from a Japanese university and got a full-time position in April 2023. At that time I applied and received a Professor working visa for 1 year (I assume because the contract was for 1 year). In April 2024 I decided to apply for HSP and PR later this year as well. I received HSP in April 2024 for 5 years. However, I decided not to apply for PR and want to quit my job soon. I don't have a job lined up yet and would like to take a few months to recover from my current job and look for another one. I read that it's better to switch from HSP back to Professor visa, because the latter is not tied to my current employer and I will basically have the time till the visa expires to find a new job, whereas if I stay on HSP, I have to find another job within 3 months. However, I am not sure if that's true and if it's even possible to convince the immigration office to grant me a professor visa again (without my current employer involved). Any advice and clarification is welcome! Except for "hang on, apply for PR and then quit if you get it". I can not bear my current job any longer.
