Changing Jobs Soon: Applying for a Visa Extension with a New Employer While Still Employed

Hello,

My 3-year work visa is expiring in mid-September. I found a new job in a company that agreed to support my visa renewal.

The problem is that they are bringing staff from overseas and waiting for the full team to be in Japan to start their activities here. So, I’m waiting for an official starting date from them (should be around mid-August).

My current employer is not aware of the fact that I will be leaving soon, as I’m waiting to know my official starting date with the new employer to give my one-month notice.

My question is, once I get my starting date and contract/documents from the new company, is it possible to apply for a visa extension while still working for the first company? (status residence will stay the same – Specialist in Humanities) I know the delays at immigration are really long lately, so I would like to start as early as possible.

Note: I’m pretty sure a visa extension application with my current company would be denied, so this is not a solution, and it’s why I got the new job in the first place.

Thanks in advance !
