What do I do if I have lost my bike registration papers?

So I bought my bike a while ago and I was thinking about selling my bike at some point. I am thinking of getting a new bike in the not so near future.

The thing is I don’t really know where my forms are that I was given. I most likely do have it, but in the event that I don’t what action will I be able to do. Can I get the registration again? I bought it at a department store several years back so I don’t know if I would be able to.

Any help is appreciated!

  1. It depends where you live and also when you registered your bike. You can try going to the police station in the town where your bike was registered and ask if they can look up your registration. If you purchased it within the last 10 years, in theory they might be able to do so. Possibly.

A while back I was trying to give a very old bike to a friend, and I didn’t have the registration, so I went to the local bicycle shop to transfer the bicycle over. In theory they weren’t supposed to let me do it, because I couldn’t prove that I was the owner, but in practice it was an old bike with no resale value, so they let me do the paperwork anyway.
