Just cycling by the river. This was the exchange:
Me: Konnichiwa (being friendly to a cop!)
Cop: (in Japanese) Can I check your bicycle's registration?
Me: OK.
Cop: Please park it over here. When did you buy it?
Me: Maybe 15 years ago.
Cop: Quite a long time ago!
(cop checks registration number on his little handheld machine)
Cop: What's your name?
Me: (gives first name only… to be a bit rebellious)
Cop: (after a few seconds) The check is finished.
Me: Thanks.
So that was it. Just thought I'd report it here.
