Hi! I am looking for recommendations and advice for a week in Tokyo.
This will be my first international trip alone. I had to cancel my original 3 week itinerary in Japan twice (soul crushing) due to the pandemic and other personal reasons. Unfortunately, I can’t spend that much time in Japan this year because I have another trip planned for the fall, but my heart is so eager to get there and I can’t wait or put it off anymore. I spontaneously booked myself a flight at the end of July.
Japan is my dream vacation. I have already spent many hours researching ideas across Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka and have a really good understanding of what to be prepared for with train systems, IC cards, exchange rates, keeping cash, eSIM, google maps, etc. I really am looking for recommendations on places to eat, maybe some lesser known things to see and do off the beaten path. Also looking for general advice that a solo traveler should keep in mind when visiting Tokyo for the first time. Maybe there is a something you wish someone told you or explained better before you first arrived?
This is very much a soul searching trip for me. I want to immerse myself and soak in the highlights without feeling super rushed. I think a day trip outside of the city would be a good idea for a short break from the massive crowds – open to suggestions for that too.
Thank you in advance for your recommendations. I am so excited to finally be in Japan in less than a month!
