Move Money to Japan as a Japanese Citizen Prior to Moving

Prior to moving bank to Japan we would like to transfer money over to Japan to avoid any potential tax issues.

My Japanese wife is unsure if she still has an account at the Japanese post office. She has not lived in Japan for 10+ years, would the account still be there and could she send money to it?

If not, I’ve read in this subreddit that it would be difficult to open an account from abroad or on vacation. Is that correct? She does have a Japanese driver’s license but does not have a My Number card?

Wise allows you to use it as a bank. We can transfer money to Wise, convert it to yen before arriving and from my understanding it stays in a Japan bank after the conversion, but before the final transfer to a bank account in my wife’s name. After she arrives she can open a Japanese bank account and transfer the previously converted Yen to her bank account, would this work?

If none of that works what would happen if we kept the money in our current country in her name only to avoid any chance it would be considered a gift and then transfer it once she opens a Japanese bank account?
