We were thinking of doing the 1 day hike of Mt Fuji up and down on the same day. Is it best to still stay at Tokyo for this given the connectivity, or would it be better to get something like an onsen ryokan closer to Fuji (only question is how easy would it be to get transit to and from that to the Fuji hiking station). Any suggestions?
