Bringing Toy Collection – Customs, Work Visa

TLDR: 1 year work visa, 1/3 of stuff I'm bringing opened action figures and Lego, any issue with customs as don't want to leave them. Thanks

Hi all, possibly worrying about nothing but here goes, and truly appreciate any input as I have searched (before and today) but couldn't find much on this particular angle.

I'm coming to Japan, 1 year work visa, expect to stay a good number of years (lived and worked in Japan before). Last time I came I had little stuff – clothes, a few books, laptop, CDs and stuff, so wasn't a consideration.

This time I would like to bring some of my toy collection; action figures and Lego. I have left a lot in storage but I bought it to enjoy it. Of course, "leave them" would remove the worry but I really, really want to keep them with me. It's my main hobby, brings me a lot of comfort, and a lot of time has gone into finding, buying (often on a deal), and unboxing the things. While plenty I can (and will!) buy in Japan, really want to add.

I hope I'm jut being too cautious, so wondering about the "risk" if any.

I presume the process is as before and elsewhere I've been – immigration check visa, documents, etc. make the stamp call. Then customs are concerned with value of stuff or violations, less with "why is 1/3+ of your stuff toys?".

My concerns:

  1. As the visa is for a year, would it look strange to bring stuff "just for that time", even if I would be enjoying it from the off, and aim to stay longer/go directly elsewhere probably not back here?

  2. Would it look odd that I'm brining as many toys as clothes? I mean, clothes I can buy in Japan (and a lot cheaper from experience); these toys I can't or would cost a lot to import, plus it's a damn hassle.

  3. While I'm asking, bringing in four 4tb portable hard drives + two SSDs – I have my data backed up, so its doubled, and really 8tb of games, work, (legally purchased) comics etc. goes quick.

Again, no idea what looks normal.

I would prefer not to, but OK to pay import tax.

Thanks in advance.
