I just wanted to get some advice or perspective on my situation with my BOE apartment. As most of these posts go, the apartment is not nice. It has wallpaper that is ancient and has signs of mold, and is separating showing mold spots under the wallpaper. My vinyl flooring is the same, though not necessarily mold but there are what look to me to be water spots or some kind of discoloration. The tatami room is tattered and has duct tape on it all over. The kitchen cupboards are peeling in spots and the hook up for the wash machine has who knows what on it.
Overall, I like the size and location of my apartment but when I ask both the school and the BOE about cleaning or upgrading they point the finger at each other and say the other has to fix it. I'm not really happy about the living situation but everything else about my experience so far has been fantastic! So, my question is what can I do about the BOE apartment situation? Can I do anything? They told me that in my contract states I have to live here but it also states the the BOE needs to take care of the place too. It's a bit frustrating that want me to withhold my part of the contract but won't on their end. I have no problem with following my contract if they will also follow their part.
