My wife and I made homemade sushi together tonight.

We obviously like very Americanized rolls. Not traditional sushi in the slightest, but man were these tasty.

  1. Not to be too critical, but a couple things that might improve your next round. The rice looks a bit overcooked, it should be sticky but that looks super clumped up and dense. Are you washing the rice to get the excess starch off, could be using too much water as well.

1st thing will help, but ratio of rice to filling is a bit off, I suspect it was too clumpy to make the rice layer thinner. for rolls try to keep the rice layer thin while still getting covering of the seaweed.

  2. Making homemade sushi is a job and a half, but boy, is it fun, especially if you do it together with someone that enjoys it as much as you.

You two are perhaps by the looks of things in the beginner stage of making your own sushi, but the important part is that you’re having fun and learning while doing it. I think it looks good. No doubt it was tasty.

As someone has pointed out, the rice seems to be a little mushy. I’m still a beginner as well, but I have tried my way around a few sushi rice recipes and fine-tuned one that works really well.

    Here’s mine:

    1. 1:1,1 rice to water ratio

    2. Bring to a boil on medium heat with a lid on.

    3. When boiling, turn the heat down to low and simmer for 15 minutes.

    4. After 15 minutes, turn the heat off and steam for another 10 minutes, still with lid on.

    5. Take the rice out on a tray, add sushi vinegar (10% of your rice, i.e. 1 dl rice = 0,10dl sushi vinegar), and cool off. Cover with a wet towel until you’re ready to use it.

  3. This is an amazing date idea! Stealing this date idea to do with my husband
