updated itinerary – late July

Hi all, got some good suggestions with my first attempt at an itinerary, also did some research on my own. Looking for any comments on my updated itinerary. Me (40s, the dad) and daughter (10, almost 11). Thank you!

7/21: Arrive to Narita. We are staying in Shibuya Excel first, so probably Narita Express to the hotel? Flight lands around 4pm, so nothing else specific planned.

7/22: AM: Tsukiji market tour with food, for breakfast/lunch. PM: Ghibli Museum. Late night maybe Shibuya Sky unless we are too sleepy.

7/23: Free until 11am, when we are going to see a Kabuki performance at Kabukiza THeater. Mostly we are interested in seeing costumes, some intro to the theatrical style, the theater itself which looks cool. But we probably will leave at first intermission (the whole performance is supposed to be over 4 hours long, don't think we want to do that.) Evening: Shibuya food/culture tour, all sites near the hotel.

7/24: AM: Kimono-making activity in Koto area. PM: Shinkansen to Kyoto. Thinking of what we might see on our own that afternoon/evening (Fushimi Inari late, to avoid crowds, maybe?). At 8:30 PM we will do a walking tour of Gion, then to bed. Staying at a Ryokan but no specific meal plan.

7/25: AM: Kyoto tour with a licensed guide, to see Arishayama forest and monkey park, Nishiki Market, Kinkakuji Temple. Maybe time for Nijo Castle? PM: maybe Ninenzaka/Sannenzaka/Kiyomizu? Or Fushimi Inari or Nijo Castle if we didn't do it already. Kaiseki dinner at a different ryokan.

7/26: Last chance to see one or two Kyoto sites. Would love to take Eizan like to Kurumaderu Temple, or do the Philosopher's Path. Also may do a sushi-making activity at someone's home in Kyoto, or a Nagomi visit if that works out. Then shinkansen back to Tokyo, staying in Park Hotel.

7/27: Scrapped the Hakone/Fuji-san day trip. Decided we will enjoy some Asakusa sites, maybe do a rickshaw tour. PM: Harajuku, no clear plan, but we will just hit some fun stores, buy Ghibli stuff, souvenirs.

7/28: Flight leaves Narita at 6:25 pm. I wonder if we would have time in the morning to do Shinjuku Gyoen and the Yayoi Kusama Museum before heading to the airport.
