Large Baggage Storage for Fuji?

Hello all!

This July my dad, brother, and I are visiting Tokyo from the U.S., and hiking Mount Fuji is the last portion of our trip.

My brother lives in Japan at the moment, so luggage isn’t an issue for him, and I’ve done a fair amount of backpacking in various countries, so I can pack all of my things into a large backpack fairly easily.

My dad, however, is a 57-year-old midwesterner that couldn’t pack light to save his life, frankly. Meaning he will have a carry-on luggage and checked bag with him on the trip.

I’ve seen that there are baggage storage places at the 5th station on Fuji, but I was wondering if

A. Those would be large enough to fit a typical sized checked luggage bag? (The pictures I’ve seen online make the lockers seem a bit smaller than that)

And B. Do the busses from Shinjuku to the 5th station accommodate bags that large?

My other question was if Shinjuku Station has any sort of baggage storage like that so he could just take a backpack with him for the climb and pick up his larger bags when we’re back in Tokyo?

Other Reddit threads I’ve seen have suggested the luggage-forwarding services in Japan, but Fuji is the end of our trip. We’ll get to the bottom of the mountain that morning and then fly out that night.

Any recommendations or information is greatly appreciated!
