Need help picking a short stay near Tokyo in April

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping to get some opinions on where to go near Tokyo in early April next year. My partner and I will be landing in Narita 3 days before the rest of our friends so we were hoping to do a short stay somewhere nearby before returning back to Tokyo.

This will be our second trip. Our first trip was during winter and we visited Hakone, Nikko (day trip mostly exploring Nikko Toshogu), Kyoto, Nara and Osaka.

We will be staying in the Fuji Five Lakes area and Osaka as well, when our friends arrive.

The top contender so far is Kanazawa but we’re aiming to go straight there which is an additional 3.5h on top of our flight (we’re from Australia so it’s not TOO bad). I’m wondering if there may be a nicer place to go nearer to Tokyo but for reference, we’d still be okay to travel this far.

Other considerations:

• Izu Peninsula

• Kamakura – is it worth staying here for 3 days?

• Nikko – is it worth staying here even though we’ve done a day trip?

We like going to art galleries, gardens, and doing scenic walks.

Thank you!
