I am going to Japan during the 8-9 week period of my first trimester – when nausea / morning sickness is supposed to be at its peak. Trip was already booked for a long time before we realized we were expecting(!!), so I had reserved a few nice prix fixe meals (no sushi, thankfully) with my husband. However, since my appetite is so low/unpredictable I am afraid I will not be able to finish my food and offend the staff.
Should I call ahead and request smaller portion sizes or explain my situation day of? I don’t mind if restaurant staff know that I’m pregnant, but I also don’t want to make people feel uncomfortable or burdened either by my unpredictable appetite or my leaving food behind.
Advice for handling this situation appreciated. Thank you!
