I may be moving to Hofu and want to know what it’s like. Can’t find much on it on the web.
What’s the city like and what sort of things are there for people to do?
I am also just interested in peoples experiences there even if they have just visited.

**Anyone had experience living in a rural place like Hofu? **

Yes, it’s nice and chill. But you need to be decent at Japanese to not feel isolated or lonely.
There are usually much less things to do in places like that, but there will be still be nice resturants, bars and more. That’s quite a big place to be honest I thought you were going to be talking about a truly tiny town. Over 100,000 people live there I am sure you will be fine.
With average Japanese you might be okay, because somebody there will probably be excited to see a foreigner so you can make some friends somewhere I am sure, though you may lack a deeper connection otherwise.
Hofu has a population of 100,000+ people. It is not by any definition “Rural Japan”.
It will have everything any other city has, just maybe not as many. Malls? Yes. Temples? Yes. Restaurants? Yes.
And it’s an hour and a half from both Fukuoka and Hiroshima.
