Planning the above for my family involving 3 generations- from 5 to 72!
And this will be via 2 large cars so we can control our own schedules.
Dates of road trip 6-11 Dec.
Itinerary and questions below
6th- Nagoya>Takayama
– pick up 2 cars in the morning, proceed towards Takayama
– old town, Hida-Takayama>folk town if time permits
– look for Hida beef!
– onsen hotel either Takayama or Shin otaka
(Where would be the better nights stay?)
7th- Takayama>Kanazawa
– Shinhotaka ropeway in the morning.
– kamikochi snow shoe tour (if I can find one. I know no access via vehicles)
8th- Kanazawa> Nagano
– old town, kenrokuen gardens, Omichi Gardens
– leave after lunch for the 3 hour ride toward Hakuba/Nagano
9th- Nagano> Tsumago (Nakasendo)
– am to see snow monkeys
– look for snow for the kids (no time for skiing)
– Matsumoto castle
-pm depart toward the Kiso Valley- Shirakawa ice pillars, Narai etc.
10th- Tsumago> Nagoya
– walk Tsumago/Magome.
Q1 Now I’ve one more day and I’m thinking where’s the best place above to add another night till the 11th am to be back in Nagoya.
Q2 The primary purpose of Nagano is to find some snow for the kids (their first experience) so I’m not sure it’s worth going to Nagano if we can find some snow elsewhere during that period?
Then would snow monkeys be worth skipping?
Welcome any input on how to streamline so that it’s not rushed, also mindful of the 3G family.
