Has anyone taken the Lilac/Kamui Limited Express trains between Asahikawa and Sapporo before? I looked at the car configurations, and both of them are majority unreserved cars (4/6 and 4/5 cars respectively). I have only taken Shinkansen and limited express trains that have limited or no unreserved seats before, but since these trains have so many, I am wondering if I can just purchase unreserved tickets when I get to Japan and avoid booking in advance online. For reference I am traveling on a weekday morning in August (after obon).
