6D5N Central Alps 6-11 Dec: Nagoya>Takayama>Kanazawa>Nagano>Kiso Valley> Nagoya
6D5N itinerary check
Planning the above for my family involving 3 generations- from 5 to 72!
And this will be via 2 large cars so we can control our own schedules.
Dates of road trip 6-11 Dec.
Itinerary and questions below
6th- Nagoya>Takayama
– pick up 2 cars (Alphard/Vellfire) in the morning, proceed towards Takayama
– old town, Hida-Takayama>folk town if time permits
– look for Hida beef!
– onsen hotel either Takayama or Shin otaka
(Where would be the better nights stay?)
7th- Takayama>Kanazawa
– AM: Shinhotaka ropeway
– Early PM: Lunch and markets at Hida Takayama
– Mid PM: Shirakawago, then Kanazawa by dinner.
8th- Kanazawa> Toyama for a pit stop> Nagano/Hakuba
– AM: old town, kenrokuen gardens, Omichi Gardens
– PM: after lunch for the 3 hour ride toward Hakuba/Nagano
9th- Nagano> Tsumago (Nakasendo)
– am to see snow monkeys
– look for snow for the kids (no time for skiing)
– early pm: Lunch at Matsumoto and to see Matsumoto castle
-pm depart toward the Kiso Valley- Shirakawa ice pillars, Narai on the way
10th- Tsumago> Nagoya
AM – Walk Magome>Tsumago. This will take a few hours likely.
Main considerations:
Q1 Now I’ve one more day and I’m thinking where’s the best place above to add another night till the 11th am to be back in Nagoya. Ideally not too feel too rushed with the above itinerary.
Q2 The primary purpose of Nagano is to find some snow for the kids (their first experience) so I’m not sure it’s worth going to Nagano if we can find some snow elsewhere during that period?
Then would snow monkeys be worth skipping?
Q3 Magome> Tsumago trail
Wondering how we can all get back to Magome without walking back the same way? Also, safe for young and elderly to walk during 2nd week Dec? Don’t want to risk any falls.
Welcome any input on how to streamline so that it’s not rushed, also mindful of the 3G family.
