Teaching in Japan/ requirements? recruiters?

I would appreciate any advice and guidance.

I've recently begun researching the various programs and requirements each country has for teaching English. Initially, I decided on Korea, but unfortunately, I did not meet the criteria because I hadn't attended school in England consecutively for seven years. I am a British citizen with a bachelor's and a master's degree, and I recently acquired my CELTA certificate. However, I've realised that many countries have specific residency requirements. Having grown up between two countries, my education is scattered.

I then looked at Japan and came across the JET Programme, but I don't want to waste my time on something I might not qualify for. I've tried researching online and seeking help from recruitment agencies, but I am at a loss because I can't tell which ones are trustworthy and reliable. Also, the process takes such a long time, so if anyone knows alternatives they could recommend in addition to other countries' requirements.

Does anyone else have a similar situation or any recommendations?
