I'm holding Yen on Interactive Brokers. I noticed holding Yen on them pays negative interest rates, however the short term Japanese bonds can counteract that and give me a few more Yen in the process.
However, Interactive Brokers informed me I cannot hold Japanese bonds through them as an American. Are there laws against foreigners buying bonds? Is it just the lack of demand for Japanese bonds preventing me from buying through Interactive Brokers?
