So recently I’ve taken an interest in Tenkara fishing, which is adapted for mountain streams, and that sparked some questions I had about other types of Japanese fishing, however the only one I’ve been able to find information on is Ayu fishing. So basically my question is
TL;DR, what are some other traditional Japanese styles of fishing? Like what would they use if fishing the lakes/oceans instead of mountain streams?

Cormorant fishing, called ukai (鵜飼) in Japanese, is done on larger rivers.
I saw ukai by torchlight in Gifu. It was amazing.
Interesting.
I found this page interesting:
https://www.mizu.gr.jp/kikanshi/no59/02.html
It says there is a book, written in Japanese in 1723 which is all about fishing, which was very popular during the Edo period.
“漁人道しるべ”
And it mentions a few other books also.
Don’t know if there is an English translation of the books though.
