Trying to quit my job – what’s the minimum notice?

I got an ALT job basically to renew my visa. My goal is not to work in English teaching at all. I want to quit as soon as possible (sorry for devaluing ALTs but I did what had to be done). In the contract the minimum notice of resignation is 2 months, but legally it's 2 weeks. Which one should I follow? Would 1 month or something work? I don't care about not getting paid, I just want to escape this black company and get out of the inaka, and most importantly, retaining my visa.

  1. If it’s a fixed term contract of 1 year or less then the notice period in the contract is valid. If it’s a permanent contract then yeah 2 weeks.

  2. this has been covered many times in this sub. do a search and find the information yourself. its there, you just gotta start searching.

  3. So, a couple things. ALT are contracted workers so the 2 months is correct. Maybe you could get away with 1 month.

But also, do you have your next job out of the inaka lined up? Because just renewing your visa and then quitting, you don’t actually have the full term of your visa to find work. Just something to think about.

AND you still have to find work under the classification of your visa, which for an ALT is educator.
