Been to Shirakawa Go 3 times last 12 months. Purchased this kind of bun my 2nd visit — and got shouted at because he couldn’t understand me. I ordered “a bun and an icecream” and shouted back that i should have said “ONE BUN! ONE ICECREAM!”.
Handed to him over the bill and he wouldn’t accept it, he pointed at the money tray for me to put it there. He gave me back my coin change —not at the money tray BUT ASKED FOR MY HAND SO HE CAN PUT IT HIMSELF. (what kind of game was he playing i asked myself)
GF noticed the raised voice the whole time and asked if he was rude and I actually played it off as if “maybe we has hearing issues that raised his voice”. checked review back at our hotel and seems everybody had issues about his rudeness.
Went back the third time (6 mos ago) I didn’t see him anymore as I passed the shop. There was a lady who seems very polite to everyone. fast forward now checking the reviews I guess he is back along with 1/5 google reviews mostly because of his shouting and rudeness. It is implied that probably he is racist or hates foreigners in the comments.
Any similar issues with the guy? Do you know the story? You wouldn’t miss him, he looks like a Japanese with down syndrome. Probably the only time somebody was rude to me in Japan in all my trips that’s why he stood out.
