Hello,
So i have been living in Japan since last September and have a recidency signed up. I used to live in Tokyo for quite a while and got and paid my NHI bills there normally at the konbini. But now i moved to Miyazaki before I will leave Japan. I have my residency here now and i just got a lot of letters and also the NHI receipts with whom i can pay at the konbini again.
Now the problem ist that its way more than when i was living in Tokyo (which was around 1k a month). Now its around 6k a months and i need to pay around 6 or 7 months.
The thing is i dont even have a need for the NHI because i have my own international insurance which I have also used before.
Thats why im wondering if I even need to pay the rest of the NHI.
Because technically its not even a Tax but an insurance so i would just leave the country ignoring that stuff.
But i dont know if they will stop me at the airport and make me pay even more before im allowed to leave the country or smth…
And yes i have read that its compulsory to have the nhi if youre in Japan for longer than 3 months but i want to know what they are going to do about it or if they even care about that.
Thanks in advance
