Looking for validation of my plan – basic first time Japan experience.

Hey!

I am looking for some validation or criticism of my itinerary. With my buddy, we are going to Japan between 22 October and 12 of November. We are experienced travelers and visited numerous countries sleeping in tents and in campervans, but this is our first trip to Asia. There is no problem in driving on the other side of the road and we are capable of very long hikes. Generally, we are into car culture, but also history of Japan (i was hooked as a teenager playing Shogun Total War series) and love hiking. So, here you are:

23.10 – landing and Tokyo in the morning. Quick sightseeing and hop on to the train to Nikko

24.10 – Nikko – basic Nikko i guess

25.10 – Nikko/Oze National Park – maybe some hikes in Oze (considering Edo Wonderland as well)

26.10 – Nikko in the morning + train to Himeji (longest travel during this trip)

27.10 – Himeji + Kobe (evening and dinner)

28.10 – Osaka – basic Osaka stuff

29.10 – Osaka – basic Osaka stuff (but we are thinking about cutting out one day in Osaka and do other stuff – like Izu Penisula)

30.10 – Nara – basic Nara as well

31.10 – Yoshino Kumano National Park – as far as i am concerned – the are of Yoshino Kumano is not very well connected through public transport. So the plan is to rent a car in Kioto or Osaka for 2/3 days. Any thoughts?

1.11 – Yoshino Kumano National Park

2.11 – Kioto

3.11 – Kioto – Arashiyama

4.11 – train to Tokyo + almost a day in Tokyo

5.11 – Tokyo (hopefully Daikoku in the night)

6.11 – Tokyo

7.11 – Tokyo/Yokohama (Nissan Heritage Collection) – here we would like to rent a car again to get around Fuji, small villages and Fuji Five Lakes. Your thoughts :)?

8.11 – Fujiyoshida – rather chill day

9.11 – Kawaguchiko/Five Lakes of Fuji

10.11 – Hakone and surroundings

11.11 – shopping day in Tokyo

12.11 – flight back

In general – plan is to travel via public transport, but we think that renting a car for Yoshino Kumano and area of Mt. Fuji will be really cool idea.

I would really appreciate any thoughts about this itinerary.

Cheers!
