I met a native Japanese speaker some months ago on Hello Talk. He's been speaking English for about 6 years, but only moved to the UK about a year ago (although his English is great, he's still learning slang and local idioms).
Anyway, we were speaking about local accents and "figures of speech" when I thought I'd introduce him to Pig Latin. It was a very funny conversation, and he was very confused! I asked him if Japanese had any sort of equivalent. Apart from other prefectures having their own dialects and their own idioms, he couldn't think of anything directly like Pig Latin.
Has anyone else introduced a Japanese friend to any sort of word play? And how did they receive it?
