Worth doing Ishigaki and Okinawa or just spending a full eight days on the main island?

Hello everyone. I am going back to Japan in October with my wife for 20 days. This is our second trip to Japan.

Our itinerary thus far is:

* Osaka/Kii Peninsula (eight days)

* Okinawa Main Island (four days)

* Ishigaki (four days)

* Tokyo (four days)

Our thinking for doing the main island (I am just going to write "Okinawa" to simplify) as well as Ishigaki was that Ishigaki would be quieter and less busy than Okinawa. We booked a guest house that is away from the main settlement in Ishigaki and it would give us a chance to hang out and relax without lots of crowds. We also factored the American military presence on Okinawa into that decision (noise and disruption).

I am now rethinking going to Ishigaki and instead staying on Okinawa for eight days, for a few reasons:

* Okinawa is pretty quiet in mid-October and it's probably not going to be as busy as I was afraid it would be

* It will save us from another travel day and flight

* The more I read about Okinawa, the more I realize how much there is to do.

* There is nothing nature-wise on Ishigaki that you can't get on the main island (or so I read).

We are staying in Naha for the four days we do have booked on the main island and was thinking we could book a hotel somewhere else on the island for the other four. I was thinking Nago because it seems like a good home base for exploring the north of the island and it's close to the ferry terminal to Noho/Izena/Iheya. We will have a rental car the entire time.

Would love everyone's feedback on this. Thank you!!!!
