Hi, I am going to Okinawa and I need a translation for my driving licence. I saw on the JAF website that you can only do the translation online from within Japan. Do you have any experience on how to do it differently? I need a translation from Germany.
Do you have any experience of exploring the island without a car?

Why do u need a translation? Unless u are converting ur German license to Japanese u shouldn’t need one. What u need is an international driving permit to rent a car and drive around.
Hi, i’ve asked myself the same question, as I am planning my next trip to Japan and want to rent a car there. When are you heading to Okinawa? I’ve found some opportunities, to get a translation before heading out to Japan (only works, if you still have some time before leaving Germany):
1. German ADAC translation service (might take up to 10 days)
2. Translation service by „Japan experience“ (works online as well, but takes up to 6 weeks)
If you don’t have enough time: You can use the JAF translation service at the counters in JAF offices in Japan (there might be one JAF branch in Okinawa, too). There it only takes some hours (or up to one day) to translate it (and it‘s less expensive than the other translation services).
Maybe search r/JapanTravel for [this question](https://www.reddit.com/r/JapanTravel/s/Y6J2uZyGoN)
Have u tried asking the embassy? Might have to call the embassy of Germany in Japan and see if they can make an appointment for u to translate it.
Thank you all for your help! I already got in touch with the JAF and will try to figure out a way. Because I’ll be in Taiwan before and then fly over to Okinawa in 2 weeks I won’t be able to do an appointment in Germany. That’s why I asked about any experience of translation service upon arrival in Okinawa Airport. But of course a bit my chaotic approach that I didn’t take care of it sooner :’)
Hey, French here.
I did it through the official website. Paid around 25euros and received the document (the next day) to be printed in a local 7eleven.
