We (2 pax) are planning to visit the Japanese Alps for 6 days and five nights in this stunning region. I look forward to exploring the majestic mountains, charming villages, and breathtaking landscapes that the Japanese Alps have to offer.
We are planning to rent a car on Day 1 or 2, and return it on Day 5 or 6. Our current plan:
Day 1: Matsumoto (arriving from Osaka; 3/4 hour trip)
– Visit Castle
– Wasabi Farm
– Rent a car
Day 2 and 3: Okuhida and area
– Takayama Old Town
– Hiking around Kamikochi
Day 4, 5 and 6: Nagano City and area
– Temple (Zenko-Ji)
– Shiga Kogen
– Shibu Toge
– Other nature and picturesque places around
– On the final day we will return Car and leave for Tokyo (by train), probably late afternoon
My questions:
1. Any advice or opinion on the 'density' of our itinerary?
- Any general tips for this region? Any major sights I must visit and some which I should skip?
