Traveling while student visa is being renewed

I applied for my student visa extension 5 weeks ago and my residence card expires the day before my flight. I already talked with immigration if I can travel during the 2-month grace period and they said I can as I'll return before it ends.

But I have a couple of questions that immigration wasn't clear about,

  1. How and where do I report about my travel so that I receive the new card notification mail after I return?

  2. Even if immigration said it's ok, will the airport or airlines cause any issues? If so, what should I do?

It's my first time renewing my visa and I'm super stressed. I'm thankful for any advice you'd give!

  1. Once the decision is made, the postcard gets sent out to the address you are living at in which you put down on your forms. Once you get mailed that card, you have a small window of time to take your approval to immigration to get your new residence card. If you miss that window, especially by a month or so and not just a day or two you WILL run into issues.

If you applied for your extension 5 weeks ago, you may be hearing back very soon. I really doubt it’s going to take 2 more months.

If you plan to be out for longer than a week or so, I would advise to just wait until after you get your renewal.

  2. I’ve done that couple of times before. No problem when leaving/entering country. The most I got was from airport immigration told me to hurry up and get my card.

Your problem would be the notification postcard might come while you’re out of the country. IIRC you have 4 weeks after postcard arrived.

Like the other comment said. You should get the postcard very soon. I’d advise you to wait for it before you travel.
