My girlfriend of over 13 years came to Canada for university and has recently said she misses her family. We plan to return, but, we are not married and Japan doesn't recognize common law marriage, no matter how long. Anyway, Ontario is slightly invasive when it comes to marriage, also surprisingly bureaucratic about it with multiple forms and fees… my gf says Japan is easy, we can walk in and get it done.
So, we plan to move in 6 or 7 months, if we get married in Japan, I hear there are ways to get a spousal visa relatively quickly (1 or 2 months). While I've also read on reddit it can take 5 or 6 months for the paperwork to go through for the visa, specifically the one form I can't remember the name of… we won't need to work for the first six months or so, but I'd like to get a spousal visa to work eventually… my question is, would it be easier to get married in japan and apply for a spousal visa while there and living at an address, or get married in Ontario asap, and apply for a spousal visa and hope everything is done by our move??
Thanks
