Police have arrested a taxi passenger who was wanted for shooting the driver in Kawaguchi City, near Tokyo.

Investigative sources say Segawa Yoshiichi was apprehended at JR Omiya Station in Saitama City on Friday afternoon.

The 68-year-old is accused of shooting the driver with what is believed to be a handgun and attempting to rob him late Wednesday night. The driver, who is 72, suffered injuries that are expected to take one month to heal.

The suspect fled the scene with a weapon. Police identified him from security camera footage and added him to a nationwide wanted list. Segawa was not carrying a handgun at the time of his apprehension.
