Considering first time travel to Japan solo

I've been wanting to go to Japan for several years and now after having graduated from university, having a stable income and time off I can take I finally have the means to travel there. I'm considering doing a solo trip for the very first time to Tokyo. I've never solo traveled and I've never been to Japan.

I'm familiar with Japanese as I can read Kana and basic Kanji. I can ask simple questions that'd probably suffice to get around. I've spent several years familiarizing myself with Japanese culture and etiquette so I'm mostly confident I'd be okay with that too.

I'm thinking of spending 2 weeks there splitting my time between an airbnb in Tokyo and either Kyoto or Kamakura. For those of you who have solo traveled there, what did you think of it? Would it be too overwhelming for a first time solo traveler?
