“There is too much garbage on Kamogawa (River)” – Voice from 1994

I recently read a book called " Kyoto恋愛空間“, the title of which means "Kyoto Love Space". It is an observation report from 1994.

There is a small detail in it that has nothing to do with the theme of love. Some couples sitting by the Kamogawa (River) were asked, "What do you think are the shortcomings and problems of Kamogawa (River)?" 10 out of 25 couples answered: There is too much garbage on Kamogawa (River).

From the time of the book (1994), we can speculate that:

(1) "Overtourism" should not have been a problem at that time.

(2) It was one year earlier than the "Tokyo subway sarin attack" (1995), so it is speculated that there should still be trash cans on the streets at that time.

However, in 1994 and before, people were already complaining about the increase in garbage on Kamogawa (River).

So my thought is: until now, the garbage in Kamogawa (River) may still be a problem, but it should not be a problem ONLY for tourists (especially foreign tourists)!

This book can be borrowed from the library in Kyoto City.

I wrote a review (about their observation of love space in Kyoto), if you can read Chinese, or use a translation tool, my book review is here:http://wildgun.net/2024/05/bookreview\_9784761511456/
