Itinerary check: 3D2N in Nikko!

Hi all!

My husband and I are planning to do a short trip to Nikko as a stopover on the way to the US. We are quite chill travellers and the priority would be to just enjoy the nature and onsen in Nikko.

We are planning to get the 4 day all Nikko pass, though we will probably only stay 3 days and fly out from Tokyo on the morning of the 4th day

Any feedback or advice on the below plan?

Day 1

  • Arrive Tokyo early morning – train to Nikko – bus to yumoto onsen, drop bags at hotel
  • Bus to yudaki falls, start hike at senjogahara marshland
  • Reach Akanuma or ryuzu falls (Or are there any other hiking trails around yumoto onsen? I've seen some mentions of okunikko plains but couldn't really find a route)
  • Bus back to yumoto hotel

Day 2

  • Bus to lake chuzenji area
  • Sightseeing cruise
  • Kegon falls
  • Bus back to yumoto

Day 3

  • Check out, bus to Tobu Nikko
  • Luggage storage at station
  • Shinkyo bridge
  • Toshogu shrine
  • Rinnoji
  • Kanmangafuji Abyss
  • Late afternoon/evening train to Tokyo

Can we do the trails in normal sports/walking shoes or will we need hiking footwear? Would also appreciate recommendations for ryokans/hotels with onsen in Yumoto (budget flexible but we would probably prefer a place that serves dinner)!

TIA!
