So my kid is in grade school and we were going to go to the U.S. embassy in Tokyo right around the start of the pandemic. Then obviously the pandemic hit and caused things to go bonkers.
Now, my father wants to pay for his grand child’s school stuff like swimming school, juku and all that. The easiest way it seems tax wise, is to have him just send my kid the money directly and have all their school stuff come out of that account.
Now, my kid being a dual national, it seems they should be reporting facta and all that BUT they don’t have an SSN or passport from Uncle Sam since, my bad, we just never got around to it.
I tried looking through the U.S. embassy website and I can’t find squat on doing this.
All I need is my wife, me, the kid, a translated koseki and my passport info right? Any other Americans totally drop the ball on their kid’s U.S. stuff?
