Are you telling me your job being an all encompassing aspect of your life, ruining your sleep and social hygiene, is not engaging?
Only so much teeth sucking and “muzukashi”s one can do.
It’s weird to see that given how well everything runs in the country, especially public services. If you want to see demotivated you should see the UK. Outside of London nothing works properly.

How do they pretend to be engaged and motivated though?
Japan needs the equivalent of what made Silicon Valley an innovation hub. It needs to enable more independent workers, startups, which in turn will result in more competition and hence more opportunities to find places with better working conditions and salaries.
