Train Ticket Trick?

Hi all,
I think I heard this in a YouTube video but I swear I cannot find the video again and/or the same info on the official Shinkanzen website.
So basically I believe I heard that if you buy a shinkanzen ticket it is valid for a certain amount of days and the days go up by the distance you’re traveling.
So theoretically if I bought a ticket from Tokyo to Hiroshima it’s valid for e.g 5 days which means I can stop my journey along that line, spend 2 days in Osaka and get back on the train with the same ticket I started my journey with.
Is this a special type of ticket? And where could I check the number of days allowed to make a stop?
Sorry again if this should be common knowledge I swear I cannot find this info again besides vaguely remembering a youtube short.
