I just found books written by Yumi and Clay Boutwell on Amazon and I am blown away by their organization and quality. They tend to put English translations either on the same page or the next page and really focus on making small segments comprehensible. It looks like most of their books are aimed at N5-N4 learners but some are a little more advanced.
