Affordable gyms for women

Hello there,
Can you please recommend good gyms in Tokyo. I am a women with no gym experience..I have always gone to cardio and weightlifting classes but I have no idea what to do on my own in a gym. So I would like to register in a gym as I am motivated to change my body. I googled the area I live in and apparently the only available gym at a walking distance is Anytime gym. Can you guys recommend affordable and comfortable gyms to go to. I heard a lot about how it is weird for gaijin women to be seen in gyms. I would love to hear and learn from your experiences. Thank you!!

  1. Over the years -like 20 years- I’ve probably been a member of all or nearly all of the gyms.

My first rule is: the gym that you actually go to is the good gym. People sign up and then don’t go. If you live too far, you don’t go. So I would suggest something near your house or near work if you go to an office.

Anytime Fitness I thought was pretty good! It’s not big or full-scale – like no pool, no sauna, no boxing, but it is very functional for people who just want to get in, do some cardio, some weights. Also, I didn’t get any weird gym vibes at the location I went to. I think I paid 9,000 JPY per month? I only quit because of COVID.

I didn’t care for Gold’s nor did I like Tipness and I believe both were more expensive and more restrictive. I liked Jexer although the hours sucked and it was also more expensive.

  2. I see foreign girls regularly at my Anytime Fitness, and pretty much at any other Anytime Fitness I have been to here. You’ll be fine.

  3. Who says it’s weird to see foreign women in gyms? Where I live almost the only time I see other foreign women is at the gym.

We used to go to Megalos, and it was alright. We quit when Covid happened. Flash forward and an Anytime opened near our home a couple months ago. We like Anytime a lot better. Our location is not your location, of course, but everyone is quiet, courteous and keep to themselves.

They’re all pretty spendy compared to back home. Unless you want to go to the municipal gyms where you pay a couple hundred yen only on the day you go.
