Nintendo DS font

So I had the plan to start a game (smt strange journey) on my nintndo ds and the plan was to look up all the words I dont know. You know the same procedure as usual.

But the font is strange, really small and often I cant tell how the kanji is written.
This is bad becaus I look up kanji most of the time by drawing them in my dictonary app, but here the app wont even recognise the Kanji even if I write them exactly as on the screen.

Any tipps for this kind of problem? Or is it not worth the trouble?

  1. It’s not worth the effort tbh because I’m surprised natives can even read small fonts but don’t like that discourage you. What I recommend is to just look up words that you can read since it would’ve been waste of time getting the game and starting it up

  2. DS and earlier games have really cramped fonts because of their low resolution. That‘s why games back then often were completely in kana, just for readability. I would recommend playing a modern/home console game, unless you really want to play that one specific game it‘s not worth the hassle

  3. I don’t know if you’re playing on a actual DS or on an emulator but for exemple SNES emulators tend to apply by default a filter that make Japanese font barely readable, turning it off fixed that font problem for me. So, maybe the DS emulator have a similar mechanism.
