  1. Good morning! I recently moved to a new address and afaik, you need to update your address at city hall and bank. Already did at the city hall, as they require you to do so within 14 days of moving but am kinda lost about the bank. Gladly I could go to the city office without messing with my working hours but for the bank it’s a bit more difficult and I’ll have to miss half a day of work to do that.

Is there any deadline on notifying your address change at the bank? I have a JP Post bank account. It’s been almost a year that I’ve been here and haven’t received anything from them since then. I know ideally you would need to do so as fast as possible but even tho I don’t do overtime at my work, things have been really busy during working hours and I don’t want to be seen as a burden to my colleagues leaving them to do my job while I do some other stuff. My plan would be to wait a few weeks till things are less busy at work and then get a morning off to go to JP Post.

  2. Do banks like SMBC and Shinsei also need an appointment/reservation to open an account for salary purposes? I tried the Japan Post Bank the other day but they needed an appointment to process a yucho, so I’d like to know if I’ll need to file a leave to try the other options.

I’m considering applying online too but since it takes 2-3 weeks to process for most banks, it might be too late to know if I got rejected.

  3. Going to Sapporo for a few days soon, any must-do (or must-miss) recommendations?

  4. A few years ago I had my credit card information stolen while using UberEats. It was such a pain and I hate talking on the phone, so I’d like to avoid having to go through that again. But, recently I’ve been wanting to use UberEats (or similar) again, especially when I’m unwell and would like to order something easy and comforting. Would using PayPay or RPay add an extra layer of protection that would deter would-be scammers?

  5. I still don’t understand the “it’s summer so let’s cool off with a horror movie/themed thing”

What do they mean? It’s been like… 10 years. I enjoy the stupid “ghost video reaction” tv shows. I like that my SO said “hey you love Biohazard, do you know Silent Hill, play that for me next time” (they don’t like playing horror games but they like watching me play lol)

    But like… why summer?

  6. Tell me where and when I can make bbq at the seaside , I don’t understand it.

I am asking about Kaizuka in Kansai area or rinku town

  7. There’s a Mukade up in my air con. It’s sticking out its stupid body and watching me. I can’t really spray chemicals into my air con while I’m pregnant, and it’s so high above me.
My husband won’t be here for a while.
Any advice about possibly removing this stupid thing or at least advice on how not to panic haha

  8. More of a rant: recently went to a JALT meeting where mostly university teachers convene and talk like they’re swirling glasses of wine 🍷 being smug little shits.

One person proudly announced they’ve been a university teacher for a couple decades now and barely know how to use email. Another did a presentation which was basically a survey that could’ve been done in 3 minutes but somehow dragged it out into a 40 minute presentation. A Sunday wasted… 🫤

  9. So I’ve finally got all of my papers in line for converting my American driver’s license, and not once in over a month has the driving center answered the phone, which the website states is required for an appointment, which also states that going directly to the driving center doesn’t matter because an appointment is still required…

I was reading other people’s posts on converting a license, and apparently you can’t even take the driving test the same day you take the written test? Huh? My American license, as well as the 4,000 yen translation for it, will expire in a month… my fault for waiting I guess, but are same-day tests not a thing?

  10. I have been getting accutane treatment since February. Every visit costs around 17000 yen (medicine is not covered by insurance). I recently learned you can ger tax reduction for medical expenses exceeding 100 000 yen. Does that also apply for treatments not covered by insurance?

  11. Summer is coming and my family is visiting, but I don’t have enough mental bandwidth (and energy) to be the trip planner/navigator. Does anyone have a travel agency recommendation that can handle domestic tour packages all over Japan? Like 5D4N to Hokkaido or 3D2N to Fukushima..which includes itineraries, hotels, meals, and transportation? And preferably English friendly so I don’t need to translate everything for my family 😭😭
Some people have recommended Klook and Agoda, but both seem to have only transportation with no itineraries. I have googled some too, but not sure which one is trustworthy. Would love to hear from you! Thank you and take care!

  12. I’ve been trying to Google if my current city’s transportation bureau is the same as the one in th city I’m planning to move to (both same prefectures) since if posaible I’ll rather use the same number plates I have right now, but I can’t find any info about it! And I don’t wanna call the city hall and ask them directly cuz I feel they’ll try to talk me into requesting new number plates cuz money

Is there any google prompt template I could try ? Or any web page with the info?
