I ordered my first yakitori/konro grill and I’m excited to get cooking on it.
Binchotan charcoal is very expensive so I’ve been looking for an alternative.
Thoughts on this stuff?

From the description it sounds like it could work but will burn faster than binchotan, and maybe not burn as hot. You are using it outdoors right?
I use this, it takes longer to light but I use a heating element which works much better than a chimney imo. It burns hotter and longer, and can be reused. They sell ogatan too, but I’ve never used it.

I’m sure I’ve seen oga-tan used at cheap(er) yakitori places. It’s very common for yakiniku. It’s much less smokey than other charcoal which is what you want for yakitori.
I personally use it as my go-to for regular grilling. I prefer it to briquettes.
This type of charcoal is better for yakitori than regular lump charcoal but not as good as binchotan. A good binchotan alternative is binchotan style eucalyptus charcoal, it performs well and is half the cost of traditional binhcotan. But again.
