I’m looking to buy some old/retro Nintendo apparel (hats, for example, but anything wearable would be great) for gifts to bring back home. I’ve been trying every second hand shop I can find, and went inside a few retro-game shops in Akihabara as well, but had no luck so far.
I wonder if anyone knows of a specific place where I could increase my chances?

The only place I can think of is USJ and the area around it. There is a mall just outside the park that sells the same merch. You can get some nintendo merch from there, specifically lots of Mario stuff.
Try Book Off Super Bazaar outlets or things listed in [fmfm.jp](https://fmfm.jp). The former don’t have any particular association with Nintendo stuff, but they *do* have relatively large stocks of used clothing, which will increase your chances of finding something.
