I’ve been living in Japan for 5 years now and have been actively thinking of naturalization. I meet all the conditions listen on the 法務局 website (example), but when checking other websites it also lists the condition: at least 3 years have to be on a working visa. Depending on the wording, I can’t tell if it’s supposed to be “have worked for 3 years or more” or “have 3 years or more of a valid working visa”.
Regardless, the official legal affairs bureau doesn’t have this as a minimum condition, and yet every other page seems to say it’s a requirement? Even worse, when Googling in English instead of Japanese, it’s not even mentioned anywhere as a requirement.
Those of you who have naturalized, did you meet this requirement / was it even talked about it in interviews?
